Got it stocked, 1 more Question

Today I stocked my 55g with:

12 Neon Tetras
3 Pearl Gouramis, 1 male & 2 females
6 Green Coris.

As, I was buying the fish my young daughter went ga-ga over a Betta. Is a Betta suitable with this combo? She's old enough to understand we may not be able to get one. Thanks again for the great help.

A betta is best off in a tank or bowl of its own. Bettas do not make good community fish. In your situation I would expect the neons and gouramis both to chew the fins on the betta, which leads to 2ndary infections that quite often end up fatal.
Unless you're wanting a small tank or can provide enough heat and water changes for a bowl, the betta is best left where it is at the store.

As those fish mature watch the gouramis with the neons... gouramis can get very aggressive once they are mature, especially if you end up with a mated pair. Lots of dense plants in the upper 1/2 of the tank will help a lot, and lots of dense decoration down lower will help more.
