New Guppy Breeding Setup
hey everyone, ive been lurkin round this forum and finally decieded to make an account. I have been keeping FW,SW, and reef aquariums for many years now, but have never actually bred fish, so i thot i should give it a try. Ok here is my setup:

10 gal AGA
BAre bottom
15 wat flourescent lite
DIY sponge filter
floating plants
a trio of fancy guppies.

20 Gal Show tank(already setup)

Ok, so the fish i am going to try to breed are fancy guppies, i have read that these are one of the simplest fish to breed. Im new to this, So please be gentle.

would you mind giving me specs? or do you want to stay origional? im only 15 so i cant afford anything. I need one for my flame tetra breeding.

lol, im only 14 :P

ok so here are the speks:

air tubing
air pump

i got a cube of sponge at my LFS, then i cut it in half, then into triangles, after cutting the sponge i took a piece of pvc and drilled holes into the PVC, then after you are done, plug 1 end of the pvc with something, then take some airtubing and put it into the top hole, after all that cut a snug hole into the sponge and put it in.

*be sure to put something inside of it to wiegh it down.

To breed your fancy guppies, just take the male and the female that you want to breed, put them in your breeeder tank until the female shows signs of being pregnant. At that point you can remove the male. If you provide lots of fine leafed plant material or the fry to hide in, you will have guppy fry in less than a month. To raise them feed them finely ground up flake food so its small enough for them to eat. Once the fry are born you can choose to leave the mother in the tank and wait for another batch of fry in about 4 weeks or remove her to reduce the number of fry she eats. Either way, she will give birth every 4 weeks or so for several months because female guppies store enough sperm after you remove the male to last for months. The bad part about them storing sperm is that it means you almost need to raise your own female from a fry to be sure that the male you put her with is the one responsible for the fry.
