Is my Black Banded Leporinus ok? All he does is swim up and down along the glass looking at his reflection. Should i get another one or is this normal? I've only had him for a few days is he just getting use to being alone or is he just being an normal Leporinus. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. D |
I did a little research just now and a lot of the sources said they prefer to be in large groups. I would assume that's at least 8, and considering these are fish that grow to be 8-12 inches, I don't know if your tank would be able to hold such a group. A more knowledgeable member will give you better advice I'm sure, but when I imagine 8 of those fish in my 55 gallon, the picture I get is overcrowded. And smaller groups are more prone to aggression between each other, so getting him a friend might do you more harm than good. You might want to consider returning him to the fish store. |
Leporinus is one of the few characins that is okay with being kept individually. Your case is fine. For a 55g, one is enough. Adding more is asking for trouble especially when these are notoriously aggressive. You can replace it with marbled headstanders which grow no longer than 5-6 inches. |
