Is my Black Banded Leporinus ok?

All he does is swim up and down along the glass looking at his reflection. Should i get another one or is this normal? I've only had him for a few days is he just getting use to being alone or is he just being an normal Leporinus. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did a little research just now and a lot of the sources said they prefer to be in large groups. I would assume that's at least 8, and considering these are fish that grow to be 8-12 inches, I don't know if your tank would be able to hold such a group. A more knowledgeable member will give you better advice I'm sure, but when I imagine 8 of those fish in my 55 gallon, the picture I get is overcrowded. And smaller groups are more prone to aggression between each other, so getting him a friend might do you more harm than good. You might want to consider returning him to the fish store.

Leporinus is one of the few characins that is okay with being kept individually. Your case is fine. For a 55g, one is enough. Adding more is asking for trouble especially when these are notoriously aggressive. You can replace it with marbled headstanders which grow no longer than 5-6 inches.
