largest fish for a 16 galon tank

whats the largest fish for a 16 galon tank. and how many can i have, id love to have about 3 large fish in there or so but i just dont like tetras and other small fish except for cories

I can't say as to that largest option... but you could have 2-3 dwarf gourami (or honey gourami) just keep in mind the males (even sometimes the females too) can get pretty agressive.
Or you could have a cichlid tank (sorry can't help as to the amount or type.)
You could get a bristlenose pleco but I wouldn't recommend that if you plan on having a shoal of cories.
Or (depending on what other fish you have in the tank) you could have a male betta.

Tetra like fishes,Honey Gourami,Shell dweller's,shrimp's,betta, are about all that is suited for 16 gallon's.
Trying to keep larger fish in small volume of water = fish that are NFL (not for long).

yep. but need to keep in mind certain larger fish (such as dwarf gourami and bettas) get kind of aggressive so you need to watch out for what other fish or how many of each you put in the tank.

yeah im not a fan of gouramis, i wouldnt mind having a few small cichlids like bolivian rams. any other small cichlids to recomend, i will not have Keyhole cichlids

I believe you could have a male and a couple female Neolamprologus multifasciatus (Many banded shell dweller) they are rather cute. I think you could probably get away with a pair of Kribensis. I'm not entirely sure but since german blue ram cichlids (supposedly didn't do enough research to confirm though) only gets to about 2 in you could have one or two there.
Personally I would go with a couple of the shelldwellers and possibly a kribensis.
