Preheat full spectrum daylight

I recently bought a 8k full spectrum daylight 18 inch 15 watt bulb, I put it in the hood and it wouldn't work, then I looked on the bulb and it said preheat, what do I do?

Welcome to the forum first of all as I see this your first post here

Pre-heat bulbs usually require a starter to get them going, either this or a rocker switch which can be held down in the "on" position for a few moments.

If the bulb isnt striking (lighting up), then your ballast in the fixture is not strong enough to produce the current required to light the bulb. The only way this bulb will ever light is if it has a starter or a stronger ballast.

Thank you! Also what's a good starter?!

The starter would need to built into the fixture, wiring up a starter to your fixture is not something I would recommend to anyone who isnt a trained electrician. The current flowing in those things can be deadly if done wrong.

Some starters for basic fluorescent shop lighting generates a current in excess of 50,000 volts for a fraction of a second but if wired wrong would also electrify the fixture at 50,000v for the same time, enough to shock you severely.

Thank you!!

No problem.

The cost of getting a new fixture that size is not worth the risk of wiring in a starter, better off just to look for a new one or used one on either ebay or craiglist.

Just gunna get a different bulb
