My morning.....new pleco and rocks!!!!

So I wanted to check out the lfs that Coley told me about so we drove up there just to see if they have adhesive for the rocks. When we got there I looked around, have to keep my eye out for something good ya know?! So I found this really pretty pleco that wasn't a common. So I'm looking at him and looking at him. He's a Para Pleco L124 that was on the suggest list I got from the pleco forum that won't get too big for my tank. I didn't want to get him online since he's $25 and them $35 for shipping. He was $15.99!!!!!!

On the way home we stopped at a rock distributer my hubby knows about and I picked out 20lbs of slate and the grand total was $0.78! SWEET!!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!

Not bad! They had a few things that you didn't see at the normal lfs. They're salt selection was awesome. It's worth stopping in while I'm in the area. Thank you

nice pickup :D
but he looks very pail~stressed.. hows he doing now? has he settled?

tigger 02-10-2008 10:10 AM

I don't think that's a L124, looks more like an older L134 (the lines break up when they get older I think) which is a Leopard Frog Peckoltia. Make sure it has plenty of hidey holes (caves/wood) to hide in/under.

Agree with sazzy that it is very pale indeed, so probably stressed from the move into the tank. See if you can check it's belly to see if it's shrunken.

Check it's belly??? I'm sure he was stressed from the ride home, it was about a 45 min- 1 hour drive. He was out and playing yesturday but I haven't seen him tonight yet. I have peat in my water so between the tannins and the plants he blends very well!!! I'll double check on what he is also.

Sorry, I didn't explain the shrunken belly bit at all, did I?

Plecs can be susceptible to internal parasites, or perhaps if wild caught, don't eat for a time. One thing to check for in a new plec is it's belly. Shrunken means either it's not eaten through stress or it may have internal parasites so if at all possible check to see if the new one is affected.

planet catfish is excellant for I.D.s

I check there for pleco fanatics. When I move the tank around next week I'll try to get a good look at him. It's making me nervous that I haven't seen him in 2 days now but like I said between all the hiding places, him being yellow and the tannins in my tank, it wouldn't surprise me if I just can't pick him out!
