new tank i gotz problems typical lol
so today my new tank arrived for the £108 INC. P&P (delivery)
tank is fabulous however
my stand top has a pretty bad warp in it which didn't cause a problem before hand as the tank had a plastic rim and the side walls extended into the rim past the bottom piece of glass
in simple terms the bottom piece of glass didn't sit on the stand
yes you guessed it my new one does
i am thinking instead of a new stand for the 250 L tank i will just change the top piece of wood and strengthen the stand in one or two of the weak bits
unless there is any better suggestions or advice
Not knowing exactly what the existing stand is like, I will stick with general suggestions.
First, all of the tank frame around the bottom must sit evenly on the support. There can be no unevenness at all, or it can cause a shift of the glass and create a leak or worse.
I use a metal stand for two of my larger tanks (4 and 5-feet) with a double layer of that foam strip between tank frame and stand. On the other 4-foot tank I have it sitting on a 3/4 inch thick sheet of plywood, which is supported by two columns made from concrete blocks. Placing the tank on a sheet of plywood or particle board is ideal because it isw firm but has enough "give" to allow the tank to sit perfectly evenly. This is important because the tank frame may not be absolutely straight. Then all you need to ensure is that the plywood is adequately supported so it will not bow at all.
