Sump in FOWLR?
Do i have to have a sump with a 29 gallon FOWLR?
You don't have to, but a sump tends to be much easier to maintain and helps make it easier to keep water quality under control. A sump will also help some with the problems of salt creep.
In 29 gallons you could run a canister filter with some powerheads for circulation, you could run a hang on filter but will need to keep up maintenance for salt creep and still add a power head or 2 in order to channel water flow for proper circulation, or you could work with an internal filter such as eheim internals. Depending on how you set it all up, the eheim might not need the added power heads, or quite as much extra circulation. Are you planning to use a skimmer? FOWLR tanks tend to run higher nitrate levels, and there isn't a very large list of options for fish in a 29 gallon. Provided the tank isn't overcrowded or overfed, you could pull it off just about anyway if you take the time to plan it well and do it right.
