Lighting for an 85 gallon
Alrighty- I know I keep posting saying I'm getting such-and-such different kind of tank, but I seem to have actually found a craigslist seller who won't flake out! Unfortunately the tank doesn't have very good lighting, and that's one thing I know nothing about.
What would be a good light setup for an 85G tank? I want it to be decently planted, but it's not going to have any particularly light demanding plants. It seems like there are a lot of pricey lights out there that are for coral and such? Which obviously I don't need, but I want it to be a good spectrum. How many watts/gallon do I need? Are they usually set up with two 36" lights? Um, yeah, any help is appreciated!
I am new here, but what I would recomend depends on the l/w/h of your tank. If it is an 85 tall, you need higher wattages but les topical coverage, if its a long one you can get away with less wattages but you need more cover or your plants will "grow toward the sun" so to speak. As far as type, I would use a full spectum plant there are several brands. I have an 85 galon diamond, I have 4 24" 20 watt, but grow no plants, its only for looks, should be good though as long as your tank isn't too deep. Hope this helps a little.
The tank is 6' long x 19" high x 14" high. I just don't want to have too much or too little light...
