aquarim lights-alternative to florescent?
i was looking at these LED lights as an alternative to florescent as i'm allergic to florescent. but i don't know if they would work or if $30 is a good deal for them. also, which color would be best?

any input on this would be great, thank you.

LED technology is a new technology in aquarium lighting. As with all new technology, information and feedback is hard to find. Most information is tainted by manufacturers' reviews. You should probably find a resource such as a post board or google "reviews for LED aquarium lightingto get your questions answered. All I have heard and read is hearsay both positve and negative, with a few neutral comments thrown in.

My concerns with LED lighting is the spectrum. I know that intensity shouldn't be a problem, just add more lights to achieve the desired goal. Sorry I could be of more help. Let us know what you find out and of your experiences should you decide on getting LED.

From what I know, the spectrum of LED's really depend on the type. There are definitely full spectrum ones out there, and they are *extremely* energy efficient. Here's a link that talks about full spectrum LED's

The other nice thing about LED's is that they are extremely easy to wire yourself, I'm terrible with electronics, but I'd have no worries wiring up a set of lights for my aquarium. Here's a posting in the DIY section on someone who made their own. I'm sure you could post and ask how we'll it's going.

i can't seem to find much on the model i'm looking at. it may just be a try and see type of thing.

okiemavis-thank you for the links but they aren't really the same ones i'm looking at. the ones i'm looking into are submersible. but they are LEDs so it may work out the same way anyway. i just hope they work well with my tank. i'm not having any live plants but i would like to be able to see the fish a bit better when it gets dark. i told him i would like to purchase one of his sets but as of yet i have gotten no reply. i will let everyone know how they work out though.
