Anyone know anything about sea worms inan aquarium? I have a big one....like 4 inches long. I have no idea where he came from, just was there this morning when I came down and my lights weren't on quite yet. Are those things ok in my tank? Its so creepy...like a big gray centipede looking thing with a segmented body. Has a set of legs per segment and he burrows into the sand

sounds like a bristle worm, which are a good part of your natural clean up crew ( CUC ) however, when their numbers get out of hand and/or you find a large one, i would attempt to remove it. large numbers and/or large sized bristle worms usually are a result of overfeeding.

I see...last week I bought some live rock from a different pet store in the area and their tank had tons of green and red coralline algae. I originally got rock from a store with spotlessly clean tanks. Could he be a hitchhiker from that rock? I only had a few fish in my tank and I was trying to feed lightly but I suppose I could've been overdoing it. The problem is now he's buried in the sand and I have no idea where he is. Is there a good way to coax him out?

they usually come out at night and/or with a feeding. it hitched in on your live rock.
i would just confirm it being a large bristle worm before removal and not something else, like a sea cucumber.

I looked at some pictures online this morning and it looks like a blood worm or something kinda. Its really weird. He was out at night and this is the first time I've seen one in my tank.

Definitely a bristle worm....I pulled him out last night with some tongs. Was about 3 inches long. I'm not sure if there are more in there or not but we'll see. I think they definitely came on those rocks because that's where he crawled out of
