Does anyone use Mangroves to help reduce nitrates?
I added 10 to my sump on Saturday and tonight my nitrates are at 10, the lowest they have ever been.
No but I've heard of people making the claim. Let me do some research in some of my old magazines and we'll see, together, what the consensus is. I know that I use elodea to do much the same as well as soften the water a little.
We added mangroves to our tidepool at the store, and it made a big difference. Ours get light a good part of the day, direct for at least 3 - 4 hrs. They grow slow, but not quite as slow as we were expecting. In the 5 yrs they've been there now, they are about 4+ ft tall each, and still growing. They were started as about 6 - 8 inch saplings.
