Must Love Fish...
Why, hello fellow fish lovers!

First off, let me just begin by saying I am by no means an aquarium expert. Goodness no. In fact, like many newcomers I've only very recently introduced myself to this seemingly rewarding hobby. A part from the occasional goldfish/Betta kept as a child, this will be my first time attempting to set up a community tank to enjoy. Literally, as of this post I have only been at this for four days now.

Despite my newness, I already feel I am becoming attached to the idea of owning at least one tankful of my very own wet pets. My family has always been one to become close with our animals, but I'm pretty sure they think I'm crazy for becoming so enthusiastic about some silly fish. And thus the reason I joined this site. I figured if anybody were to understand my new found joy for fish, it would be a forum full of aquarium owners of course!

As I speak I am watching my new little family members play out of the corner of my eye. Since I tried to learn as much as possible about tank cycling so I could do this thing right, my 20 gallon tank consists only of four Zebra Danios; Alpha, Shank, Stubby, and one I have yet to name. Giving them names probably wasn't the best idea seeing as with a cycling tank there are so many things that could go wrong... but I couldn't help it, they were practically asking for them!

Anyway, I'm rambling... I'll shut up now. The point is I really hope with the help of this forum I can advance evermore in this hobby and learn to be the best fish keeper I can. I'm excited to meet people that feel the same. :D

Hello and welcome to the forum :wave:

Everyone here understands the joy of fishkeeping (and the pains along the way) so you'll find plenty of people who relate to you. Congrats. on getting your feet "wet" again and good luck with your new tank.

Zebras are pretty tough little guys. You can add some Prime to detoxify the ammonia as the tank cycles. May help you avoid any losses among the zebras.

Good luck.

Thank you all for the welcome!

@Romad: I'm relieved to know I'm amongst those who want to do more with keeping pet fish then just chucking a poor little gold fish into a bowl and calling it good.

@sidluckman: Thanks for the tip. If they ever show any signs of stress, I'll keep that in mind. At the moment they seem perfectly content and I'm glad.

@eatrubyfill: Aw, thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you! I could babble about my finned friends for ages. . . but my family doesn't *really* get it. At least they're nice and don't tell me to shut up!!! I hope all goes well with you and your new tank! I'm sure that on this forum you'll find a lot of wonderful friends and advice to help you on your way, as I have!

Happy keeping!
