Solitary Female laying eggs

The last couple days my female has looked very fat but only in the front portion of her abdomin. Today she started laying eggs (i assume). White balls were just falling out of her left and right as she swam around. There were dozens! Now she is eating them all. She hasn't had contact with a male at all. Is this a normal cycle thing? Or is something wrong?

Although I have not heard of this with bettas before it is very normal for other female egg layers to do this. If the conditions are right for spawning, they will simply lay eggs regardless of if there is a male around to fertilize them.

I would say it is perfectly normal.

It's normal just like chickens lay eggs without a rooster and women ovulate fish will also lay eggs without a male around.
