Quick question about sand depth

I know to aim for about 2-3 inches of sand when you're going to have a lot of live plants. But what about in a tank that might just have a few (2 swords and maybe some vals) plants? I have a 55 gallon tank, and the sand I'm buying comes in 30 lb bags. Should I get one or two bags?

Thanks!

2 bags.

this depends on the sand. Is it playsand or aquarium sand? If its aquarium sand 2 bags will be fine as you don't have to rinse it but playsand on the hand you do have to rinse it and 60lbs may or may not be enough depending on how much you have to rinse and lose in the process.

It's aquarium sand. So two 30lb bags?

2 bags will be fine then. If you find it not to be enough to you liking and depth you can always add more later on down the road. I would get two though.
