Aquaripure Info

Hello, I am interested in some more information on the Aquaripure. It's a big expense to put out, I'd like to know more about it before I take the plunge. How is it able to remove nitrate without ever needing new filter media? Thanks!

I'm sure John will jump in here, but let me see if I can assist in answering your question. First, the pump that feeds the Aquaripure is placed very high in the tank. Very little, if any, detritus gets into the Aquaripure. That's why you also need separate mechanical filtration. Inside the Aquaripure there are four different layers of sponge type media, with each layer being a higher density foam. Any dissolved organics are initially processed by aerobic bacteria which also removes the oxygen from the water so that later stages of the filter can better support anaerobic bacteria that extract oxygen from nitrates and release nitrogen gas.

Granted these are the 'cliff notes', but boiled down to a simple explanation that I hope helps some.
