Do shrimp cross-breed?
I've got several cherry shrimp in my tank and have an opportunity to pick up some green rocket shrimps. I'd like to keep them all in the same tank in hopes both varieties would breed, but not cross-breed. whats the general rule-of-thumb with shrimps? can all the varieties cross, or just some, or none?

I've been at this a long time and I have never heard of it happening. Not to say it isn't possible, but I think that it isn't probable.

Different varieties can interbreed, cherries can interbreed with yellows and snowballs, crystals can interbreed with bees etc. Here is a compatability chart. I believe that the green shrimp you are referring to are of the caridina sp. and the cherries are neocaridina so they should be ok. The worst result is that the coloration reverts to a more "muddy" natural coloration. http://www.planetinverts.com/Will%20...nterbreed.html
