I have 3 glowlights in quarantine due to just purchasing them a couple of weeks ago. I have been gone since yesterday morning and just got home. I went to feed them but only two came up. I searched for the other and found him stuck under a limb of a fake plant. I assumed he was dead but when I moved the plant he swam out. He has nipped fins and is fighting the current of the filter to stay in one spot. I turned the filter off and he seemed better. I know I can't leave the filter off very much longer so does any one have any suggestions? Could I move him to a bucket with no filter for a couple of days to see if he can get his strength back?
I think your best bet is to baffle the filter. We have a link to a quick and easy one on the betta section, all you need is a water bottle, a knife and some tape. Really shouldn't take to much time to accomplish. :-)
Step-By-Step Filter Baffle
You might want to look into what happened, could have been the other tetra (3 is a small number, could have been attacked by stronger fish) or the filter intake.
Try this, I hope it helps the little guy out and he feels better soon!
Thank you. I ended up putting him in the bucket for the night. He acted better this morning and put him back in the tank. I feed them when I got home tonight and he did eat, but not as aggressivly as the others. I will be getting more Glowlights, just slowly adding them since the tank wasn't cycled. I have 2 in my main tank, then after I add these 3 to the main tank I will be getting 5 more to start quarantine. So I will ended up with 10.
Thank you again.
I'm glad to know that the little guy is feeling better! :-)
