Baby Tears Imposter ?? or newbie fail ?
So I got these plants at my LFS they said it was baby tears. When I bought it they were all about 1 mm tall so I thought they were legit. I was ecstatic because were i am it's difficult to get carpet plants.
I made a DIY co2 because i heard these buggers love it and it's set at one bubble per second , they have grown but they've shot straight up and as you can see don't look anything like the luscious green turf you see in pics. ?? So are they the real deal or is that I'm doing something wrong. For a substrate i have SERA flora , and various SERA supplements in the form of tablets as well as a liquid SERA fertilizer. my lighting is a CFL it looks to be in the correct color range.
Thanks guys ,
Hmmm... it doesn't look like baby tears to me but I could be wrong. Mine are darker green and a different shaped leaf.
i read what Byron posted, he quoted that if there isn't enough light baby tears will grow tall and will have large spaces between the leaves , is that what this is ?
Without the scientific name one never knows what actual plant we are discussing. "Baby tears" is commonly applied to Bacopa monnieri and your plant does appear to be structured like this plant; it grows to 40cm (16 inches).
"Dwarf baby tears" may refer to Hemianthus callitrichoides which is the smaller form of H. micranthemoides. Photo of this attached.
