Moss Identification. I have three mosses in my tank which are all different. They came in a mixed moss bundle and I'm trying to work out which moss is which. I think the moss on the skull is java moss, correct me if I'm wrong. http://www.fishforum.com/userpix/1206_moss1_1.jpg http://www.fishforum.com/userpix/1206_moss2_1.jpg http://www.fishforum.com/userpix/1206_moss3_1.jpg |
Your first picture is surely java moss, but the other pictures don't seem to be much different. It's going to be hard to judge this way. Try checking at http://azgardens.com and browse through their pictures of the different mosses. They have a pretty wide variety to check through and good pictures for most part. It helps that you're able to hold it up to a photo to compare. |
Thanks. At least i was right about the java moss. They look more different in the tank. The second one down is much darker and sort of wirey compared to the java moss, and the bottom much lighter and thicker strands, and looks almost velvety, but I appreciate it may be a bit hard to tell from the photos. I'll check out that website, thanks again. |
The bottom one looks like Christmas moss. The wider frond patterns gives it away. It is in really bdd shape though. Most mosses don't ship well and will take some time to recover. IME anyway. http://www.aquamoss.net/Moss-List.htm This site might help also. I really want to get Fissiden Fontanus but have not found anyone who has it nor a LFS who has ever heard of it. |
Awesome info fish_4_all! Thanks for the link, I have added it to my reference materials on this end. |
