Oh no! Red flecks all over! Someone please help!
I have the cutest brown and clear veil tail betta named rag who I've had for 2 years.
Recently I've noticed weird red flecks all over! They kind of look like broken blood vessels or skin irritation.
There is no problem with ammonia in my tank and the only other fish in there is another male betta who has no health problems at all.
Has anyone else seen this in their tank? He might just be getting old.. but there is a problem with super high PH in my tank of 9+ because thats what my well water is like.
Does high ph cause skin irritation on fish who prefer medium PH?
He really doesn't show any signs of sickness other than the red flecks all over.
He eats well, LOVES the bloodworms, is very active and is doing his normal thing!
I am kinda scared that this could be a parasite that my other betta could catch and I really do not want that.
If anyone has any sort of idea what this could be PLEASE tell me!
PH of 9 is too high for bettas. The high end of their ph range is 8. I would advise doing a large water change with possibly store bought water (which is normally at a ph of 7). If this is out of the question now or in the long run get water from another source with acceptable ph such as a friends house. You can store it and heat a portion to mix with the colder portion to get the right temp. This time make sure you acclimate your fish to the new water as that much of a ph shift don too quickly can stress your fish and compound the problem.
Has the pH been like that forever? If so that is probably not it, but it may be septicemia.
Does it look like it's red powder? Your description sounds like it's velvet...
is there a divider? Maybe he's been attacking the divider to get at the other betta.
Yes theres a divider, but they dont really seem to notice eachother! I switched him to the side with the filter and he seems to be getting better c: My water has always been like that! because I get it from a well.
I don't think its velvet.. Its not really a coating. It kind of looks like chicken pox haha kind of but the dots are kind of long. like flecks
It kind of looks like septicimia, but the dots are more defined than the dots that where showed for septicimia
the septicimia looks more like red areas.. not like the dots my fish has. The dots on the body looks like it, but not the dots on the tail.
