| herefishy | 01-22-2008 03:06 PM | Is that the only filter you would have? I'm the "Toolman Tim" type. If "this" is good more of "this" is better. I like using the ratio of filtering my tank at 10x:1g per hour or more. Some of my tanks ate being filtered at a rate of more than 30x:1g per hour per hour. I do not like using a single filtering method. By using power filters, reverse flow power heads or rfph w/ ugf's, and canister filters, a create a system where routine maintainence does not interfere with the biological filtration in the tank. Week one, I clean the power filter. Week two, I clean the sponges on the power heads. Week three, I do a gravel sweep. Week four, I clean the canister. This allows for only one element of my system to be "weak" for any period of time. The other three can pick up the slack until the fourth can regenerate itself. |
