Is my Fish Pregnant?
I am new to this whole breeding fish thing.. When I set up my tank and purchased my first couple of fish. My Two mollies going crazy for each other.. But I noticed that one of the mollies belly is getting bigger.. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Also When should I move her to a floating breeder?
The type of molly I have are Balloon Mollies
If she's pregnant, her belly will start to square off (the back end drops).. when you see that happen, it's probably a good idea to put her in the breeder. It helps to turn the lights out when you put her in there to calm her down, as she will probably protest the breeder.
Good luck :)
Since they are sold out of non-segregated tanks at the dealers, most livebearers are either pregnant or have the potential for becoming pregnant owing to the fact that a single mating prior to your purchase of a female fish can result in many successive pregnancies.
Balloon mollies are tougher to "read" than more normally shaped fish, and the advice about waiting to see the tell-tale squared-off profile is spot-on. Most balloon mollies of both genders look pregnant!
