Tank leak safe?
I'm planning on upgrading to a larger tank. A guy on Craigslist has a 55 gal that he says he's had for 5 years. Tank in great shape, plus stand for $100. The catch is he was out of town for 4 days and came home to an empty tank, fish dead, sadly, at the bottom. He says it's a quick silicone fix, which it could be. What are your thoughts about buying a tank like this? Too risky? Worth grabbing?
I dunno....doesn't Petco do an annual $1/gallon sale for tanks up to 55g.
Just my nickle but If you're up for a challenge of resealing, offer him $50.
Petco's sale is over but but well worth it when you can catch the deal. Resealing isn't too bad. I just resealed my 55g myself for the first time. I ended up doing it twice unfortunately. My first attempt, I applied some bad caulk that was either aged or not at room temperature. The hardest part is getting rid of all the silicone and then the taping job for a cleaner look. Time consuming but feasible. My tank has been leak testing for a week on my patio and so far so good.
Hey just my thoughts. This happened to me about a couple of weeks ago i bought a tank from a craigslist add. Said just need a silcone job was a 125g tank bought it for 150. resilconed and still leaked couldnt fix it. Long sotry short i ended up buying another 125g tank which from craigslist but saw it hold water and so forth. So my advice would be find another which they can show you it holds water :-). Either way goodluck.
