Dither Fish for CA and SA Cichlids

I currently have Giant Danios, but I am quite tired of them. They are not appealing to look at, at all. What other dither fish would you suggest for my setup (check it out in my signature)?

Columbian tetra's, Congo tetra's have worked for me in the past. but if too young,,(small) they may become snacks rather than dither's.
Could grow smaller ones out a bit in another tank?

I had a Syno catfish in with my South African Cichlids for awhile was pretty good together. He was moved to another tank. But i do plan on getting another one but they are pretty pricey around me like $15

Someone else recommended Congo tetras, any others possibly?
