How to get orange algae off of coral
 

i have some coral in my freshwater tank and it has become covered in an orange algae... what is the best way to get it off? boiling? bleach?
oh, and it is on my plastic plants too. i dont know if the plastic could react with the bleach or be melted in boiling water so i have been rubbing it off with a wet cloth

It sounds like you have a bacterial bloom in the tank.

Try using a new (fish tank only) toothbrush and some kosher salt to clean it off. The salt works pretty well as an abrasive.
