replacing my foam pad with polyester filter floss..
Trying to make my water clearer. It's clear but I think it could be better. I've heard filter floss can help. My question is how often does the floss need to be replaced or rinsed? Do I treat it like the foam pad and never replace, just rinse? I have the fluval c4 filter.
I like to use filter floss as the very last stage of filtration. Leave the sponge, then follow with chemical (as desired), then bio-media, then a wad of polyester fiber to 'polish' the water.
You rinse and reuse many times. Cheap enough so when it looks ratty, replace it.
Check out polyester fiber used for pillows in the craft section at wallymart. They also have polyester quit fiber in squares that may be cut to fit your filter.
Are you sure this stuff is safe for fish?

Polyester fiber filter floss has been used in fish tank filters for over 40 years that I know of first hand - it's pretty safe!
Ok, I was just referring to the walmart polyfiber from the arts/craft section specifically
Just make sure it doesn't contain fire retardant, or mold preventitive chemicals. Should say on the package!!
