Having trouble planting crypt
Hi I just bought a crypt and I need some help with planting it. It came in one of those little plasttic potss and I successfully removed that.
I planted it in a shaded area, but I'm having trouble with having enough gravel substrate behind the plant to keep it down and keep it in place. It's a small one with lots of small leaves, and is in good shape. I would love to hear how other people plant these plants with the plastic basket off and the cooal whatever on.
If not,,you may need to increase the depth of substrate at area where you want the plant to sit.
Buy some more substrate or make you a deeper spot and plant it there. You only need to get the roots under the substrate, they can shoot out sideways and down. It can be hard if your tank is deep but it can be done with a little effort.
Thanks a lot for the responses. I watched a video on the subject by Tropica (TFH magazine) - some cutting of roots external to the wool on certain plants some separating individual plants where there are more than one. I had a very hard time getting the coal wool off another crypt and it's still trying to recover after at least one meltdown. I'll be careful this time and use a bowl.
