White stuff on snail Shortly after getting my black mystery snail a white substance appeared on the shell. I can brush it off but it comes back. The snail is acting normal. I have read a bunch of people asking about this in black mystery snails but the only answer I found was someone saying they thought it was the Stress coat added to the water that was doing it which is a product I use. This has been going on for several days and no changes in behavior. Anyone know anything? |
I'm not really sure, but is there any way you can get a picture of what you're talking about? "White substance" could be many things! Is it fuzzy looking like a fungus? Or is it more like mucus? Or dusty, like it's settling on him from above? I'm assuming that your tank is still cycling, how often are you doing water changes, how much water are you changing at a time, and what are you putting into the water - you mentioned stress coat, are you using anything else? Who else do you currently have in the tank? Is your siggy up to date with that? |
I'm wondering if it might be the snail equivalent of slime coat. I know my snails have been suffering from it recently. It usually means there is something in the water that is irritating them into producing extra... slime? mucus? It's not dangerous, but it might mean you should check your water params. If it is fuzzy... never seen fuzzy on a snail thankfully. |
