New tank questions

I have had a 55 gal freshwater tank for almost 2 weeks now. I used strips to test my levels but today got a liquid test kit. I used a bottle of bacteria that the aquarium store sold me when I first set up my tank. I put in danios after 2 days. The ammonia level never got over 0 and the nitrite levels as well never got over 0. This was with the strips.
Today with the liquid test kit my results are:
ammonia .25
nitrites 0
nitrates 5.0
questions: Do I need to change some of my water yet? If yes, how much?
Is it fully cycled??
I have read so much on the internet that my head is about to explode, so I just need someone to analyze my particular situation. Thank you so much for any help and education you can give me.

If you are seeing ammonia and no nitrites then your cycle is far from done. Not seeing the nitrites is telling me that the cycle is just getting started. The nitrates could be directly from the fish waste, the fish food or something else that is present in the tank. It could also be part of the water treatment you used.

No water changes "needed" yet. with the fact you do have fish I would do a weekly water change of at least 25% just to keep them as healthy as possible.

When is the last time you performed a water change?

Don't worry too much. Be patient, and keep up with water changes as Fish_4_all suggested. So far you are doing an exceptional job.

PATIENCE!!!! That's what I've learned! LOL It took my tank 7 weeks and the "bottles of stuff the fish store sold me" saved my fish but screwed my results up for awhile. Everyone on this forum is great and will stay with you every step..don't be afraid to ask any questions anytime...these guys know what they're talking about and I know that since they saved my butt, I mean fish, a few times as a beginner!! Good luck and give us updates.
