Stocking 29 gallon. Hey all! I have a 29 gallon tank that I have been using as a platy species tank. It currently houses 8 platy and one male swordtail. In my community tank i have 6 Guppy (2 male, 4 female), two are getting ready to give birth. The only problem is, is that in my community tank i have tetra and rasbora and I feel that the females are to nervous to give birth. Can I add the 6 guppy to my platy tank and not overstock? |
What kind of filter do you have? What is your water change schedule? |
I have an aqueon quiet flow 30g filter. and i do a weekly 20% water change. I was thinking of upgrading to a Marineland pengquin 200 filter. |
If you increase the weekly water changes to 50% then you should be able to add those 6 fish. However, you might have some interbreeding problems (or at least attempted interbreeding). The males will be trying to breed with all of the females. As long as the 3-to-1 ratio of females to males is maintained, it shouldn't be a problem. Too many males going after all of the females will stress the females out too much. |
Hmmmm. In a few months i am going to be moving and i plan on adding 1 or 2 more aquariums then. Ill maybe try to keep the guppy's in my 55gallon community until then and then make them their own 20gallon or so. |
