how to promote infusoria in tanganyikan biotope?
i recently got a hold of a few lamprologus ocellatus, and am in the process of putting up a 25-gallon tanganyikan tanks for the little guys. i am going with fine sand with shells, couple of rocks here and there.
i'm of the impression that infusoria tends to grow when you have plenty of vegetation. i'm kinda clueless on how to do this in a relatively bare tanganyikan setup.
i'm more of a "mimic nature" kind of guy, so i'm not inclined to put in plants. i also hear these guys tend to dig up plants that are in the way.

First get a piece of zucchini and let it start to rot somewhere it wont stink your place out.
Once it starts to rot, Get a jam / preserve jar, add some tap water and let it sit for 48 hours.
After 48 hours, add the piece of Zucchini, 2-3 days later, the water will turn cloudy, this is normal as it is a bacteria bloom.
Once you notice the water turning clear again, which it will do, you should see the tiny infusoria as tiny white specs on the side of the jar...if you see them, the culture is ready.
The culture is generally good for 2-3 days once the water has cleared, after that throw it out and start again.
I have used this method myself and am 100% certain it works.

So do you mean i have to do this every once in a while, or just once? i.e. will an infusoria colony survive in the tank?
i just feel that a tanganyikan tank is more desolate compared to other biotopes...so less organic matter/etc for the infusoria to survive on
