i have a marineland C360 canister filter on my 55g tank. when i go to open my canister filter do i need to empty the water line or does it have a valve. i was told i dont need to but need to make sure, i dont want water leaking on my floor

Before you open up the canister, you have to disconnect the hoses from the unit. The water is blocked by a ball valve, so it's ready to be reconnected. No, you don't have to do anytihing with the water.

I prefer to fill the canister manually with a pitcher before putting the top back on and reconnecting the hoses. You don't have to do that - it's going to fill once you open the ball valve. However, it will lower the water level in the process.
