lighting for my plants

should i turn the lights on for my plants in my aquarium or is this useless and should use sunlight?

Proper lighting is a good thing. The key word is proper. Sunlight is best, but many times the light comes from a single direction and the plants grow to the light. By using a light plced directly above the plants, they will grow straight up. You will also have to have a bulb that is condusive to plant growth. Things to watch is lumens, spectrum, kelvins. Wattage has, for many years, been erroneously used as a factor to determine lighting. Do not fall into that trap. This has been discussed, heatedly at times on the forum. Just do your homework before purchasing light fixtures or bulbs.
