Woul0d Peacock Gudgeons be okay with just females or should you have a male?

I usually hear about buying these guys in male-female pairs or a trio with 2 females and a male. However, would the fish mind not having a male and just having 2 females in a tank? Because that way you wouldn't have to worry about unwanted offspring or the male defending his cave. Or are they better off with at least 1 male in the tank with them?

I have never kept them but I know someone who has. Quick email and the reply was...

"They are quite prolific breeders when kept in a ratio of 1 male to several females, I see no reason why they cannot be kept in a female only setup. The fish are very easy to keep with most other species although some care would be needed" - Am not sure what the "some care would be needed" means (Tazman)

Hope this helps.
