New Idea or Old Idea
I want to share an idea on what to do with excess stem plants. I had 10 Hygrophila corymbosa left over from planting and decided to let them float. But because I have some water movement, all of them would end up on one side of the tank and stay there.
So I thought a suction cup would be just the thing I need. A type of suction cup that has an enclosed ring like the one's that hold a probe. My local fish store had them and this is what they look like in the tank.
The benefits are: As it grows, it will help hide the plumbing & heater. it fills out the tank even more. I placed 5 stems on each side glass and I planted 3 stems in each back corner.
New or old its clever, and if they grow good enough root systems it will be easy to get them out if you feel like planting other tanks
I usually trade or give away my extra plants when I trim. If there is a local group of planted tank enthusiasts you may be able to trade them for something you want. I have traded plants for cash, fish food, other plants, even shrimp in the past.
Looks like a good idea. I'd love to see pics after they've grow some.
There may be more benefits as the plants on the side glass are moveable, plus one can also place stem plants on the back glass if they choose to do so.
I been in the fresh water hobby since February this year but have 10 year experience in marine fishkeeping; so I have a good perspective on the maintenance of my aquarium as long as I learn to adapt to fresh water technologies.
And yes I may decide later what to do with my cuttings of the hygrophila corymbosa and place them in my fresh water makeup tank because the nitrate levels over the year are 1 ppm to 5 ppm.
But that remains under experiment at present as I am watching my parameters. I need to see how these plants perform in my main tank.
