These guys are my two AFC's! Actually, I believe they are girls!
Ive had them for about eight months, and they havent grown at all. I bought them as Dwarf Frogs, and quickly learned i was dead wrong! The lfs i went to said that they get them all the time, and have never had any grow. Im guessing they are a genetic defect, or a purposefully man made mini ACF, but i love em just the same!
Theyve been housed with my betta since i got him, and neither the frogs nor the betta seem to have any aggression towards each other. My betta actually likes to poke them, when they do their 'im dead' pose, to see if their okay!
They are currently housed in a 14 gallon, with a few ghost shrimp. the grids that you see floating on top of the water actually come from an aquatic plant i took apart. the frogs like to have something to hold on to when they float.
ACF's are notoriously messy eaters, and will turn a tank into a disaster zone! I feed the betta and the shrimp food every day, and the frogs get whatever they can grab [not much!] since they are pretty much blind and deaf, and have no teeth or tongues. They kind of scoop with thier hands, and hope it makes it in their mouths. Which works well when they are bigger, but little ones, not so much!
So, every other day, i feed the froggles with a syringe. I grind up the food, as water, and then find a frog! you have to be very careful with the plunger, not to go to fast. Some of the food will go out of their mouths, since they dont have a good mouth for syringes..but they do clamp on!
Hope you enjoy the videos!
Any Q's Feel free to ask!
Haha! Super CUTE!
I kept an African clawed frog for years - mine was full-size, dirty, and aggressive. . . I gotta say I wasn't much of a fan of the species. But it was one of those boyfriend brought it home, and I got 'stuck' with caring for it FOREVER kind of things - I'd probably feel differently about them now...
Your little tiny guys are super-duper ADORABLE! I've never heard of dwarf clawed frogs, but I can tell that they ARE clawed frogs by their super chubby little thighs and the way they use their front flippers to shove food into their mouths. . . so silly. . . ADF have a totally different style of eating.
I have two African Dwarf froggies now that I'm just head-over-heels in love with. . . Speckles and Freckles! Freckles is new, still in QT, but good ol' Specks other has been around for a while now, and she's totally my buddy. She lets me pet her, sits on my hand (under water, of course) and eats from my fingertips - she has no fear of me, and I love it!
Frogs are awesome!
Thank you! I almost wish they had grown up, cause I've seen grown ones, and they are huge!! I wanted a species tank for them, and to attempt breeding, but I won't breed my guys..no telling if the young would be messed up.
I can't believe I ever thought they were dwarf frogs! They look totally different!
I wish they weren't so messy, I'd love to put them in my 45, but they are the messiest eaters I've ever witnessed!
My boyfriend thinks all the hard to care for fish are awesome..he wants a giant catfish, an arowana, some giant discus fish..my LPS even has electric catfish! We both want that one!
LOL, of course! As long as you do your research before you buy, and avoid creatures that you can't take proper care of, I'm sure you'll be fine!
I always research! I actually started writing everything I found out down in my own notebook. =] Just some things you miss, ya know? That's why this forum is a god-send!!
Researching and learning is half the fun!

I totally agree - I love learning about all of these amazing creatures - even those I know I'll never keep! And having them in person to learn from is ever so much MORE fun . . . I need MORE FISH! ;)
They have baby electric catfish at my lps...o.O I want one so bad! But i cant! I cant!...can i? *wicked grin*
ROFL! You ARE a mess!!! I have no idea, honestly. . . sounds DANGEROUS! o.O *giggle*
They are just so cute! All spotted and such...I know from sakuras post that they get like three feet long! Like little spotted whales..
I do have a problem though..
I don't think any amount of tanks will be enough. But my boyfriend has cut me off with the 45, saying when we move I can get more, but we have enough, and I need to cut down! The horror!
heehee, yeah. it's addictive. I went from one to five in a matter of minutes, I swear! And there's a 55g in my basement that's just CALLING me! Nah, I'm good for now. . . :) I'll get a nice big tank with a stand and such in a bit of time, but for now I'm happy with my 29 being my BIG tank. I think. . . O.o
