baby mollies

Hi
My dalmation molly that I just got had babies. Luckily i was prepared because i had a birthing chamber and fry food already but i only have two ten gallon tanks. Will they all fit? i already have 3 glass fish, a guppy, two platies, and a male molly with a female molly. Now i am going to have a tank for the females and a tank for the males so they dont keep having babies. I also think that my female platy is pregnant too so she is in a birthing chamber. What is a sponge filter?

Last thing first. A sponge filter is just what it sounds like. It is a sponge with a hole in the middle. You either run an air stone in a tube to pull water into the center hole through the sponge or you set up a power head on the center tube and again pull water through the sponge to the center. They are a decent biological filter and particulate filter and they have the advantage that baby fish won't get sucked up by them.
With only 2 tanks, if you want to save any of the baby fish, you will need to give one of the tanks to just the babies. If you don't isolate the females in a breeder trap, the population explosion will take care of itself. It sounds a bit harsh but you will be over-run with fry otherwise.

even if you split the male from females, your female will continue to have a few(4 or more) litters without the male.
good luck raising them :D

i agree you will need one tank to just babies especially if you have a pregnant platy too. you will be able to fit a lot of fry in a ten gallon but the problem starts when they grow. you will have to either sell them right away or leave them with the adults and let them take care of themselves. wish you the best of luck! (i know how you feel the same thing happened to me except i had 1 tank)

Thanks, I think i will keep the babies in the floating thing till they are able to go in with the females in my ten gal. Then I already hav two friends that want like 4 each so that will get rid of some. But i guess my sisiters friends from shcool will probably take a few too

my 1 tank is a 29 gal and i just try to catch the babies in time and put them in those nets that u can hang on the tank. just a few weeks ago i returned 30 baby guppies for some other fish.
