I'm starting up a fish tank for the first time in years and thought I'd join a community for reference. I'm wanting to get into saltwater, but want to spend a while 'getting my feet wet' with freshwater again. I'm about to go purchase a 40 gallon tank to start cycling, and haven't decided what I want to keep in there yet.
I do have one question though, I want to use sand from a local beach that I love. What do I need to do to treat the sand and make it safe for aquarium use?
hello there,welcome aboard,
hopefully a saltwater member will swim in here and
help with advise,i would have thought to boil it
however please don't go on my suggestion until someone
else has added.
Okay, thanks! I'll boil it for a while, any suggestions on how to separate the sand from the water? I can't strain them like rocks since the sand will seep through with the water.
the only thing that i can think of is to gently tip the
pot so the wTER Trickles out,you wont be able to get all the water
out,but don't worry,
i would post this question in the salwater section,
you may get some better advise. :)
