Air Pump Needed or Not?

Was just trying to determine if I will require an airstone/pump for my 50G tank with an Eheim pro 3 filter with the spray bar pointed towards the glass at 45 degrees. this results in no surface agitation but the current seems ok sweeping the substrate. Ultimately i would like the tank fully stocked with a variety of tetras with some plants. I'm unsure of the need for an air pump/stone in future or would re-aligning the spray bar to agitate the surface do the trick but at the expense of lessening the sweeping effectiveness of the sand?

Can anyone provide guidance or their experiences on this?

Thanks

Air pumps are never really necessary imo, more of a cosmetic thing for some people.
