Is my platy a female?
1 Attachment(s)
Attachment 56776This is Panda, my new Panda Platy. Her anal fin is longer than my other females' anals are. But its still "feathery" for lack of a better word, and not spikey like a male. I sure hope she's a female as I really like her. Can you tell me for sure? Thank you.

How big is the fish? If its young, it may not have sexed out yet.

Its the size, or very nearly the size, of an adult platy, so not a little baby. It was in a tank of pandas, and some were quite a bit smaller.

I'd say it's a female.

Thanks all! ZTK412, I see you have blue moon platies. I just recently got a platy, and wondered what variety she is. Are yours a hazy blue with black along the sides?

ZTK412 06-18-2012 10:30 AM

Yes they are but there are a TON of variaties of platys out there such as this one which is blue to and very similar to my Blue moon platy -

Pretty! I'm thinking of getting a Sunburst or maybe one like the one on the top of this page next.
