tiger barbs as a community fish?

well in a couple of weeks i will be getting a new stand for my 55 gal and moving it back into my bedroom. i will also be adding live plants and driftwood, along with some new fishies. i was wondering if a shoal of 6 tiger barbs would be ok to add to my planted 55 gal. in the tank there is 6 cories 2 black skirted tetras, 1 rubber lip pleco and 2 glass catfish. i was hoping they would be fine with all of these fish (at least ive read if there in a shoal the nipping will be kept to a minimum. get back to me if there ok to add. thanks.

i've heard all sorts of different experiences with them, but my experience has been very good. i have seven albino tiger barbs in my 55 gallon with an angelfish. the barbs are really only concerned with themselves, if i get another angelfish i will probably introduce a couple more barbs so they can keep busy and leave my angelfish alone :P

From all the things that I've been told in my schemes to bring tiger barbs into the fishroom, 5 may not be enough to discourage some extramural nipping. 7 would be better. Also, I would probably not mix tiger barbs and Glass cats. Asian glass cats (I am assuming you would have been more specific if you had African Glass cats) really prefer peaceful tank mates, and regardless of any nipping, a bumptious school of tiger barbs will stress them out. Were I you, I'd get 4 more glass cats - they prefer to be in a shoal of 6 or so - and another four black tetras for the same reason.

I really like Tiger Barbs. I plan to add some to my 29Gallon I will be getting in a few months.

Tiger Barbs can either be decently peaceful, or can be very mean. They can establish pecking orders and they fin-nip if they dont have a lot of other "friends."

I would suggest buying 7 or 8+ Tigers.

hi
i tend to agree with tophat665,in that i would
make the glass cats a larger group,i also would increase the black skirts
aswell, they look really nice in a group
and cody is right, barbs like in mine are a good bunch
and behave themselves, where as some can be downright
nasty,it's a bit of a chance thing.
instead of Tigers, maybe odessa barbs,or Tictoe barbs
i have a mixed group,tigers odessa,and tictoe.

well im pretty dang understocked right now, so i can accomidate more black skirt tetras and glass catfish. i was planning on adding 8 tiger barbs, but im not sure now that i know this. if it helps the tank is going to have strictly live plants and alot of hiding spots. i just moved everyone into a 30 gallon (and got rid of the comet) and now ive got to empty, by hand, 1 3 gallon bucket at a time :x :x :x . it will all be worth it since the tank will be right across from my bed.

Spring for a python. They are a lot cheaper than Chiropractors.
