My fish missing
I just started an 80 gallon tank and cycled it. After the week was complete, I added four small fish as instructed by my local store. I just got home and two of them are missing, no where to be found??? I am wondering if they went down the tube? What should I do?
Is there a chance of finding them in the sump or the filtration system?
Would it make a bad smell if I leave them there?
thanks in advance.
I would definitely try to find your "missing" fish. From what I've learned so far there could be many possibilities to where they are...they could simply be hiding in the rock/ decoration. I would still search for them because if they are dead in your tank not only will it smell it will cause a spike in your ammonia levels which is dangerous to your other fish
I've had missing fish twice, and both in newer tanks.
Unfortunately, in both cases i found them caught in the filter media (multi stage)
Whatever your filter set up, pull the media and see what you find. In my case, I don't even know how the fish fit through the intake openings, but apparently did.
It sounds like your local store was trying to have you cycle the tank but didn't explain what a cycle is. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...m-cycle-38617/ This article will explain the aquarium cycle.
I wouldn't be surprised if your missing fish was dead. The others might have eaten them. But first check the filter system. It is entirely possible they could be in there.
