ok my set up,
4 african ciclids
2 red devil ciclids
2 unkown type ciclids
2 bala sharks
1 bumble bee cat fish
1 cat shark/columbian catfish
1 rainbow shark
1 pelco sucker
55 gallon fresh water tank,no plants,2 fake tunnel log decor,1 fake coral looking decor, aqua clear 110 filter.2 200 watt aqua clear heaters, current temp 78deg faren, rock bottom,2 15 in air bars and 1 duel port 2800cc pump.30% water change every monday, every other monday full tank cleaning, walls gravel.once month change carbon.
i read the thread about 5 posts down and he has different kinds of fish so i dont kno if this changes anything.
issue.1. both of my bala sharks are covered in salt like substance which has lead me to believe that it is ich.just saw this 4 days ago.whats the easiest way to cure this with out meds?i have also noticed that they go nuts up against the wall like they are trying to escape is this normal? this i dont have a pic for sorry.
issue.2. of my ciclids is directly under the filter almost side up like he is having problems swiming.
one of my other african ciclids the purple one is what seems to be like eating the mucas off of the rainbow ciclid.is this normal or because of the ich in the tank.
eats this one
the cure for ich is heat. ich has trouble breeding above temps of 85. so adjust temp of your tank to 87 and keep it there for 14 days. this will break the lifecycle. keep your gravel well vacuumed as this is where ich mostly stays when its not on a fish. fyi, warmer water has less oxygen, so turn your bubbler up. btw what do you consider full tank cleaning?
if theyre visibly miserable from the ich you can give them a salt dip and that seems to make them feel better for a while. ill tell you how if you want to know.
[QUOTE=92smokeaccord;1108429]yes please.and i did my temp last night its curently at 85 over 12 or so hrs[/QUOTE i put 2 teaspoons of salt( table salt worked fine for me.)in a bowl then fill it most of the way to top with tank water. net the fish and leaving them in the net set it in the bowl . let them soak for 15 minutes. then lift them out and return to tank. it instantly improves gill function and the parasites hate it.
thanks i gave one of my fish a salt dip ans he seemed to like it..he is usually very active but in the bowl he was chill..left him in there till all the salt dissolved took bout 20 mins or so.ever scince then he been cool back to his old self.
killed it with heat and api salt!! thanks
