yup..another one of "THOSE" newbies...

I have just joined this forum after a loooong period oif procrastination. My algae has declared war and I must FIGHT BACK!!I have:

1 5 gal w/ a male betta
1 14 gal with 2 zebra danios and 1 neon tetra(The others died.I'm stilla beginner. This is the algea-infested one.)
1 20 gal with a male blue gourami,2 black widows and 1 tetra.(The others also died.I don't know how..I suspect my two cats.)

Obviously,I am a walking fish disaster, but that's why I'm here in the first place.I know,I battle-hardened auqarists must be going, "Ugh:roll:ANOTHER one of those blasted teenagers!!!" Don't worry,I'm trying to improve.

Welcome to the forum :-)

We all started out somewhere and had problems.

With regards to your algae, try feeding as much as the fish will consume in 30 secs to a minute and also do not run the lights for long periods (in excess of 10 hours a day). If it is diatoms (brown algae), while unsightly it is something which will come quick and go almost overnight, 99% of new tanks experience them at some point.

Also is the tank near a window and receiving natural daylight for any length of time?

Welcome to the forum! Taz is right. Everyone starts somewhere. If you learn from a mistake it isn't the end of the world. You've come to a great place for info! We're all helpful and kind to newbies (because we were once there, too!) You'll also find that there are a great many users here who are young like yourself. This is a hobby for all ages!

Welcome! The one thing not mentioned, is has your tank cycled? That can be a big killer of fish, if you have any ammonia or nitrites. Do you know what your water parameters are?

I'm new to the hobby too:) I experienced this problem the second month of my aquarium....I cut back on feeding and how long I kept the lights on and also did a 25% water change on my tank and within about a week it cleared right up and I haven't had a problem since:)
