My mixed blessing

So I'm very happy to have a new fish, but it is a mixed blessing. Last week my LFS got in some very unique looking oscars and I was very excited, almost bought it. After some research I found that these Oscars were tattooed, or dyed. This obviously was troublesome and I have no desire to support the practice. Well I've gone in a few times since then and through normal conversation I got to talking to the LFS about dyed fish and certain ethical issues. I don't know if she felt bad or what, but she gave me the fish. I'm still at ends with it because I don't want people to look at both Oscars and want to run out and buy a tattooed Oscar, but I had my eye on this one for some time (not becuause of his altered look, we just had that spark you get with a fish sometime). Anyways, he's acclimating nicely and gets along with my other (bigger) Oscar. I wanted to wait to post until I had a pic....here's Charlie:

Beautiful fish :D

I find the tatooed markings very unnatural looking -- but I think it's really cool you had a 'connection' with this fish

Agreed, there is NOTHING natural about the look at all...It's kind of weird because he's 100% oscar and I'm not used to the look at all, I glance over and see him acting like an oscar, but it's kind of nothing like it..

Could she go one further and get them to stop ordering them?!

Oh I hate the practice of dyeing and tattooing fish  but he is cute and I can see why he caught your eye I'm just glad he got a good home. I think Oscars are such special fish with so much personality mine are ignoring me right now we hand feed ours and I took to long cleaning and rearranging their tanks this week so they will only take food from my hubby right now

From his face, I can see why you connected--he's got that "loveme" look.
What a cutie.
I hope the person that actually DID that to him ends up with his tackle fried in oil.

Good for you for taking him home!!!

My two cents:
Feed the HECK out of this little guy. The dyed and tattoed ones are weaker. If I were you, I'd be paranoid and soak everything you feed him in liquid vitamins for at least a year before I relaxed into just once a week.

Very good advice Alexis, he really won't eat a lot of pellets so I've given him a lot of Krill. He's starting to eat more pellets though, which is good. I'm going to buy some bloodworms to vary up his diet.

Good idea just adda few drops of vitamin to whatever you defrost the boodworms in--same with the krill.
I'd also try some peas now while he's young to get him trained to eat his veggies in case of stoppages later (I made the mistake of spoiling mine and now he will spit things at me instead of eating what I feed him if it isn't what he wants)
BTW, thanks for the compliment (on the advice)!
