Dead coral as decoration in FW tanks?

My parents recently came home from Aruba, and came home with some coral that they found on the beach. Is there anything I can do to the coral to make it safe for my freshwater tank?

I've already boiled it once and plan to do it twice more. Anything else?

What will adding coral do to the water balance?

I keep searching for threads but always end up in salt water!

I'm not sure about this, but I believe adding coral will increase your ph.

It will increase your pH. I use crushed coral to increase my GH and KH. I wouldn't add it.
