Lights are going to depend on what you are exactly wanting to do. There are different requirements for different plants. So need high lights like T5 High outputs and then some just need low to medium lights such as T8s. So from that you need to determine which route you want to go Low lights or high lights and pick the plants from that. Most ppl on here have low light or natural planted tanks.

I have amazon swords

Did your tank come with a light or do you have a light now and if so what is it? You can just type whats on the bulb and that will be enough info (well should be). Amazon swords do not need high lights so a single T8 bulb should be fine.

Can you tell me whats on the bulb? It should say the Kelvin rating on it along with what kind it is. Thinking its probably a T8. Depending what Kelvin rating it is you might need a new bulb. Plants need or do best with a kelvin rating around 6500.

Also at the top of this section is a 4 part sticky on plant care that you might want to look at here is the first one http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/a...um-part-34861/

natural daylight F15T8/18 is all it says

That bulb should be fine. Usually natural daylight bulbs are around the right Kelvin for plants.

Are you adding anything for fertilizers? Amazon swords are heavy root feeders and won't last long without fertilizer.
