RTC and Anchara

I'm have some filter sand that I am cleaning...it has really fine rocks in it.

Do you think it will be fine for the catfish?

What does RTC stand for? And I don't know the name Anchara, is there a scientific name?

I trust you have a very large tank.

Anyway, to the question on the sand, no. These are bottom hugging fish as their unprotected soft underside would be seriously scratched with rough sand, rock, gravel. Playsand would work, I use it with substrate fish. The photo of the one fish on PC shows that very smooth gravel, and that would work too. But not the sand you mentioned.

This is why I never recommend pool filter sand or blasting sand; it (usually) naturally has rougher edges.

I believe I have silica sand it isn't that rough to me though.

I'm looking to rehome these guys soon

It should, but I would want to feel it before buying it. I use Quikrete Play Sand from Home Depot and it is certainly OK. The Sakrete brand I have not seen locally, but from their info it seems to be much the same.
