Blood parrot changing colors? 2 Attachment(s) Hi, I'm very new to this forum so I apologize if someone has already asked this question. I set up a 55 gallon tank recently and I have a blood parrot cichlid that I got Wednesday, it's now Monday and when I got him (I'm assuming) he had a lot of black on him, and now most of the black is gone and he's turning more orange. I'm assuming this is OK because I see a lot of pictures of parrots who are all orange, I just feel like this may be a little fast. Anyway, if anyone could let me know if this drastic of a color change is normal that would be wonderful! This is "Paco" on Wednesday when he came home Attachment 55587 And this was taken today, Monday, not even a week after. Attachment 55588 |
Blood Parrots start off dark and gradually lighten up and usually change to orange. Although, they don't always have the same coloration. They are hybrids so it's not guaranteed yours will be all orange. |
The color change is probably from him becoming acclimated to your new tank and not being stressed from the move from the fish store to your home. Fish tend to go darker when slightly stressed and will lighten up once happy in their new home. |
Yes I have read that color changes occur during stress, but i'm just surprised that it happened so quickly. |
Color changes in blood parrots is pretty normal. |
